Western Andalucia –Isla Canela, Rio Tinto & the Guadiana River
Our group to Western Andalucia recently landed back in the UK. Based at the Playamarina Hotel on Isla Canela, they visited the beautiful Doñana National Park, cruised along the Spanish and Portuguese border, and traced the footsteps of Columbus’ preparations for his journey to the ‘new world’. Our guide Carlos (who sent in these photos) also showed them the British influence on this little corner of Spain during an excursion to the incredible Rio Tinto mines, where the Rio Tinto Mining Company Ltd employed 20,000 men. The employees’ social club introduced football to Spain (regrettably!) and even had a cricket team!
The next tour of Western Andalucia departs in April next year, with further departures planned for May and September 2020. A walking holiday also runs on these dates from this hotel.
